This tutorial helps you to set up a WiFi hotspot in your home or workplace and that too without any software. Don't have a WiFi adapter in your PC?
I have a solution for that also.
I have a solution for that also.
If you have a Windows computer with a wired internet connection, you may want to share that with other devices. The number of wireless devices are increasing daily like your phone, tablet, laptop, TV etc. The problem is you have only a single internet connection in your home and NO Wi-Fi ROUTER.
So here is a nice tip. You can do this with a little command line knowledge.
If you don't have a WiFi adapter in your laptop or desktop, I suggest you to buy
TP-LINK TL-WN821N 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter from Flipkart or any other online store.
I have been using this adapter for 3 years without any problem and It is compatible with latest Windows versions without any manual driver installation. Just Plug n Play. The range will not be that good. But it does its job well.
1. Right click Start Menu and choose "Command Prompt (Admin)" in case you are using Win 8.1 or later.
2. Enter the following command, replacing the values for name and pass with the Name of your WiFi network and password you want and press Enter:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=name key=pass keyusage=persistent
3. Now type the following command to start the network:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
4. Open Networks and Sharing Centre and click on Change adapter settings in the left pane.
5. Right-click your main ethernet connection (ie the wired or wireless connection that you are using now) and choose "Properties".
6. Under the "Sharing" tab, click the box labeled "Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection". In the drop down list, choose the network connection with Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter written underneath. Click OK.
7. Now you will be able to see the WiFi network in your devices. Type in the password to get connected.
8. You can also stop the WiFi network by typing :
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
9. Next time you want to start Hotspot, instead of firing CMD everytime,
Type netsh wlan start hostednetwork in Notepad and save as start.bat
Also type netsh wlan stop hostednetwork in Notepad and save as stop.bat.
Save these files to desktop and just Right click and Run as administrator to fire the command.
Type netsh wlan start hostednetwork in Notepad and save as start.bat
Also type netsh wlan stop hostednetwork in Notepad and save as stop.bat.
Save these files to desktop and just Right click and Run as administrator to fire the command.
Thank you for sharing turn on Wi-Fi Hotspot in windows
ReplyDeleteHi, may I know what driver version are you using? I bought the exact same adapter (TL-WN821N) and using Windows 10 as well, but when I type "netsh wlan show driver", the "Hosted network supported" says no, and I cannot proceed with this tutorial.
ReplyDeleteWin 10 detects the device automatically. Please check if you can find WiFi option or nearby WiFi in Win 10 settings. Then you are good to go
